So what's trending for the fashion conscious Pileated Woodpecker this Spring?
Ants - not only are they a great food source but for those few who found their way into this woodpecker's feathers, they made for great jewelry. Look for the shiny "bling" on the Pileated's head in Photo #1 through Photo #6. And, or course, they can always be eaten if they become annoying.
This woodpecker literally excavated a cave in a fallen tree (Photo #7 & Photo #8) in order to reach the ants.
And just prior to leaving, there was an opportunity for a full pose or two (Photo #9 & Photo #10), on top of the treasure cove.
