Should have known when I turned up at the beaver lodge and all the entire beaver family was out harvesting the largest of the downed trees, that inclement weather was quickly approaching.
On previous occasions, the beavers had been out collecting willow branches & other food sources for their underwater food pantry, stocking it for the coming Winter months. However, now it was the big stuff. This time it was cutting up the larger trees into more manageable segments. Of course, more manageable for the beavers that is. For an experiment, I tried picking up one of the smaller branches that had been left some distance away. I could barely lift it let alone move and carry it off.
Wildlife don't really possess supernatural abilities but they do have "super nature" senses and one of those is the ability to feel a drop in air pressure which can be a sign of a dramatic change in weather. For example, in this instance that afternoon the temperature was a balmy 18 degrees Celcius and sunny. That evening a cold front came in bringing freezing temperatures and snow. I really need to find out how to hire beavers as weather forecasters. They may not be able to do long term forecasts but their 24 hour forecast is certainly more accurate than that provided by our meteorologists.
So here is the beaver family busy as beavers. No matter how big or small or how young or old, everyone had a job (Photo #1 through Photo #9).
However, one of the older siblings appears to have had time to spend on the fur on his/her head. If this styling appeared on a human, one might suspect hair products. :) :) (Photo #10)
