The first two lines from the song "SEPTEMBER MORN" by Neil Diamond are:
Stay for just a while
Stay and let me look at you
What better words could describe a chance encounter with a young coyote. He/she is probably only 4 to 5 months old, most likely born May 2026.
He/she had just come across from a pond to the small woods. It was a matter of me coming down a small path and the coyote coming from the opposite direction. Then it was a head above the grass, a bounce and off.
I thought I would take the path back, go the opposite direction and head down and follow a parallel path back. I didn't believe I would see the coyote again but as I approached the area where the coyote had appeared, there he/she was. And obviously there was food to be found in the deep grass across from the path, which is why the youngster stayed around the same area. There is probably some work to be done on "our" jumping technique but that should come with time and experience and perhaps, by watching older siblings.
And then the "just a while" ended and the coyote disappeared into the deep grass and vanished.
