"NIGHT STAND"
Black-Crowned Night Heron - 5 Photos
Thought from a distance this probably was a broken branch on a dead tree but did the, "is it, isn't it" routine so walked in to check it out.
Peeked out from behind some bushes and there was an adult Black-Crowned Night Heron sitting on a dead branch directly above the creek (Photo #1 through Photo #4), obviously looking for fish surfacing in the shallows (Photo #5), from a great vantage point.
Black-Crowned Night Herons can be shy but again if you find them in the middle of a food pursuit, their attention is directed elsewhere.
So after some time, with no success, he/she headed back up stream probably to pursue other more promising opportunities.
