"AND THEN THE LANDSCAPE MELTED INTO THE BACKGROUND"

Blue Jay - 5 Photos

While watching for returning Ospreys, I heard the call of a Blue Jay which seemed to be getting closer.

Blue Jays like Belted Kingfishers are usually full of bravado until you begin to approach them and all bets are off and so are they.

So it wasn't until the call sounded as if it was coming from only a couple of feet away did I go to investigate. And there in some bushes was a young Blue Jay, probably only recently fledged and like some wildlife youngsters, there was a degree of naivety. He/she remained perched for several minutes as I tried to quietly find a clear view and managed a few photos before the Jay flew away.

Believe because of the closeness achieved with a long lens, the Blue Jay appears sharp with significant detail in the shots while the landscape & foliage behind the young bird literally melt into the background, giving a surreal almost painted look.
