NOTE: THE PUBLICATION OF THIS BLOG WAS DELAYED DUE TO THE SENSITIVITY OF NESTING AREAS
Yes, was early April and it was snowing, quite heavily at times. The good news was that as the ground had warmed from previous days, the fallen snow melted quickly.
The bad news for these owlets was that as they had fledged and were taking refuge in leafless trees, there was no longer the protection of the nest or their mother's warm wings under which they could snuggle. There are many wonderful new experiences for them as they explore & experience their expanded world but I assume falling cold wet snow was not one of them.
The good news was that they had each other to cuddle up against and keep warm, sibling rivalry being temporarily put aside (Photo #1 through Photo #6). But there were still the necessities of stretching to be attended to (Photo #7 & Photo #8).
And then the very next day, the snow had stopped and although cloudy skies still persisted, temperatures had warmed slightly and so it appeared, did the mood of the owlets (Photo #9 & Photo #10).
But much warmer temperatures would arrive in the near future. Unfortunately, for the owlets, there was also more snow forecasted before more seasonal weather arrived to stay.
