"THE SWAN STOMP"

Trumpeter Swan (Immature) - 7 Photos

One of two sibling Trumpeter Swans was relaxing along the shore, away from his/her family when a large number of Canada Geese took flight from the river (Photo #1).

When Canada Geese take off, there is always a great deal of wing flapping, splashing & honking, both from the geese taking flight as well as those remaining. Their flight path was close to where the swan was standing and as they passed, the youngster became excited and began stomping in the snow and flapping wings (Photo #2 through Photo #5). 

You never know what goes on in the mind of wildlife but perhaps having been just chilling out with the family so long, he/she became impatient, fed off the excitement of the geese leaving and began beating those incredible wings. And then he/she was off for a quick two flight laps around the area (Photo #6) before returning to the creek (Photo #7). 

The parents did honk as their youngster did the fly-by's. Not certain if this was a critique of technique or whether it was a "come back now". A short time later, the four family members took off together.
