"MOOSE JR"

Moose (North American) - 4 Photos

Foothills, Alberta, CA

N.B. All photos taken from a safe distance & location, with a long lens.

When searching for wildlife, although one always tries to remain optimistic, a large amount of time is generally spent just enjoying a lovely day out in Nature's woods & meadows.

And then when you come across a moose just standing in a meadow, clear of trees looking out on Nature's bounty, it is almost unreal and dreamlike.

Initially, I thought this was a young independent moose because of size but after ten minutes had passed, a second moose appeared from out of the thicket and from this one's reaction of moving away to give space, that second one was Mum.

The give away should have been that the first moose kept turning to look to his/her left, where the second moose finally appeared. This could have been a way of keeping watch for predators but because of the relaxed & "waiting" stance, I should have known the moose was expecting not a "foe" but a "friend".

A new journey will begin shortly for this youngster as Spring approaches. Photos & narration will appear in a further blog, "It's Time For That Chat".
