N.B. All photos taken from a safe distance & location, with a long lens.
Continuing on from the previous blog, "Moose Jr", a second moose pushed through the shrubbery and appeared in the clearing to stand some distance from her offspring.
The youngster had already made a move to exit "Stage Left", making room for Mum.
It was a brief look round, a quick nibble of some twigs and then off to discuss "business" with her offspring, pushing him/her further down the snowy incline and into the trees. (Photos documenting this "discussion" will follow in a later blog, "It's Time For That Chat".)
Like people, height is not always a way to determine adult from teenager. These two moose, almost similar in height, one perhaps a little more bulky than the other, were somewhat difficult to distinguish from each other so I had to review the photos in detail, including the times the photos were taken.
In the end, Mum has a distinctive "bump" on her muzzle, which is probably just a small matted grouping of hair but made it a little easier to identify her.
And as to her treatment of her offspring, Mama should be expecting a new arrival late May/early June this year.
