"NO, THE SKY IS NOT FALLING!"

Great Blue Heron (Immature) - 12 Photos

"Squawk! cried Chicken Little, "the sky's falling down"!"

No, it's not but what was this young Great Blue Heron looking at with his/her superior vision?

At first it was leisurely walk around the pond, fishing at the edges with much success (Photo #1 & Photo #2) and then it was a look upwards (Photo #3),  followed by a turn (Photo #4) and more upward glances (Photo #5). 

And then came the punk look (Photo #6), which herons generally do when something or someone is up.

Pulling back from the camera, I realized that a second Great Blue Heron had landed in the near vicinity of the incumbent (Photo #7 & Photo #8). There was no squawking or aggressive behaviour, other than the fluffy feathers. In the past, I have witnessed an adult Great Blue aggressively attack and chase another entering his/her territory. So perhaps this second heron (also immature) was a sibling. 

There was a short period of the two standing some distance apart but amicably and eventually the first leisurely took flight (Photo #9 through Photo #12) and probably headed for another part of the marsh. 

The next day an incident occurred between a young Great Blue Heron (most likely one of these two) and a Double Crested Cormorant which will appear in a future blog, "GAME OF THRONES".
