Beaver (North American) - 6 Photos

What could be more Canadian than a beaver and then a beaver tackling logs on a slope to reach the creek below (Photo #1).

It wasn't exactly log rolling which is done with a floating log in water but although the logs are "grounded", they can move. I certainly wouldn't want to navigate any slippery incline with obstacles and limited access to safety.

Beavers may appear at times clumsy with their waddling walk but they are agile & certainly fast when necessary. Out of the water they may not have endurance over distances but they can turn quickly with bursts of speed. 

This is Mrs. Beaver making her nightly journey through the pond system (Photo #2 through Photo #6), down to the creek below to retrieve fresh willows for her kits born this year. And then, of course, she does the entire exercise in reverse, now having to navigate the same slope/logs hauling up a full willow branch. Once she reaches the pond, it is clear swimming back to the lodge. I have noticed that it can be some time before the return journey, most likely she's taking some "alone time" to satisfy her own hunger needs without the clambering of youngsters in tight quarters.
