"ARRIVALS, DEPARTURES & IN-BETWEEN"

Bald Eagle (Mature) - 8 Photos

It was one eagle perched in a tree on the river, surveying the water and surrounding areas for potential food sources. If you are not in situ when the eagle arrives, it is always with anticipation & apprehension making your way in, hoping the eagle does not have other places to be at that precise moment and either leaves before you arrive at the "destination" or waits but when you aim the camera, flies away.

But fortunately, this time the eagle stayed perched for at least 30 minutes. Then overhead flew her partner, from downriver. He executed a quick turn and landed on the branch just underneath hers (Photo #1 & Photo #2).

And then there was a few moments of eagle chatter (See blog of January 19, 2026, "Song Sung Blue"), and then some chilling out, keeping an eye on prey & potential predators (Photo #3 through Photo #5) & some grooming (Photo #6). While watching the grooming, I did notice (as I have with Osprey pairs), that while one grooms, the other keeps watch, i.e. they never groom at the same time.

And then it was time for Mrs. to leave, a quick turn and off she flew, wings outstretched and passing directly behind her mate, so close that it invoked a reaction from him (Photo #7). And then it was a quick preparation (Photo #8), before flying off in the same direction.

The changes in the sky were due to the duration of the photo opportunities and the movement & altering cloud cover.
