"SEEN ONLY FOR MEALS"

Osprey (Immature) - 5 Photos

I often think that when young birds of prey such as Ospreys and Eagles gain the power of flight, it is much like teenagers obtaining their driving licenses. Once they have the freedom to leave home at will, you often don't see them until mealtimes.

Young Ospreys, particularly during those first weeks, return to the nest where they know their parents will return with freshly caught fish and they can dine more safely without losing a meal to other birds or a careless misstep.

Time is now spent working on flying techniques, including take-offs & landings (Photo #1 through Photo #3) but the youngsters know, that for now, when they want to eat, the best place is to return home to their nest (Photo #4 & Photo #5).
