Taking the title from the country song by Jackson Dean & using an old expression of mild surprise or joy, this Great Horned Owl had taken refuge in a tree, somewhat sheltered by the trunk.
The wind was gusting over 30 kilometres per hour, putting a chill in the air and creating quite the ruffling of the owl's feathers. It almost produced a "batwing" effect on the neck feathers (Photo #4).
Such a beautiful mature owl and one of a pair, both of whom were trying to seek refuge from the wind gusts.
But what better time to address some important grooming necessities and a prelude to potential regurgitation of excess bones & fur into a pellet.
