It's now almost the end of October and this Osprey is still fishing in Spring/Summer breeding grounds.
I assume the Osprey is without a mate. A fully matured adult and would have left earlier this Autumn if there had been a mate and offspring.
Calgary is currently experiencing a relatively mild Autumn this year, with very little snow and few sub-zero temperatures. The reason for the late departure for migration to Central & South America could be because the the fishing is still good and the weather mild.
But as we all know, weather can change quickly here and although the river remains at least partially open all year, freezing cold temperatures should make this Osprey make plans soon for a southern Winter vacation with tropical temperatures and bountiful food sources.
