"NIGHT TIME"

Black-Crowned Night Heron (Adult) - 5 Photos

At times, I have a problem with the naming of the Black-Crowned Night Heron. Firstly, their crowns are not black but navy blue. And yes, they can be seen close to dusk but my experience is that they can be seen basically at any time during daylight hours. And what about those dark ruby eyes that have been left out of the description.

But what's in a name, particularly for this colourful member of the heron family. And even the Great Blue Heron is willing to share fishing privileges with this small bird. I've seen on numerous occasions, these two species in close proximity, grooming & even fishing without any animosity.

While I was waiting for other wildlife to appear, this heron flew in and landed on top of a dead fir tree (Photo #1 through Photo #4), stayed for five minutes or so before taking flight (Photo #5).

And that's the wonderful but sometimes frustrating aspect of wildlife photography. Expect the unexpected but expect that it might also be just a great walk in Nature.
