Ospreys have returned in Calgary for the Spring. For those who are paired, there has been nest building in preparation for eggs and new offspring, which involves the retrieving of branches from the trees (Photo #1).
As egg laying approaches, the male Osprey like his Bald Eagle counterpart will soon be doing double time, while his mate sits on the nest awaiting the hatching. There will be short intervals where he will spell his mate, while she tends to grooming and having short flies to maintain flight muscles. But then for him, when the offspring arrive, there will be multiple trips to the river for fish to feed a hungry family.
So now is the time to take time out close to the nest while keeping his eye on things, to groom and stretch (Photo #2 through Photo #5), before heading out once more (Photo #6 through Photo #8).
