"EVEN SWANS HAVE THEIR MOMENTS"

Trumpeter Swans (and Canada Geese) - 7 Photos

Adult Trumpeter Swans with their magnificent white feathers, elegance and regal appearance can seem almost angelic particularly when they display their huge wings.

Angelic looking, perhaps, but even swans have their "grumpy" moments, particularly when they feel their mates are potentially under threat and that can be with other species such as the Canada Goose (Photo #1 through Photo #4) or within their own community (Photo #5 through Photo #7). When it comes to other Trumpeters, this action could be due to the imminent migration to northern parts for nesting. Trumpeter Swans mate for life and choosing the ideal nesting site & producing offspring, are two important components that make up their life history.

Successful upbringing of their young will potentially insure the continuation of their genes. The welfare of your mate is all important as they are life partners.

This one swan, in particular, seemed to be short tempered. Perhaps, he had had one too many moments while feeding, with Canada Geese up his back end, trying to catch the remnants of the vegetation that the swan had uncovered from the riverbed. Or as there appear to be some residual darker feathers in among the white ones, he & his mate may have only recently paired & as their relationship is relatively new, more protective.
