Beaver Dance - New Photo Gallery (Best seen in "Slideshow")

October 15, 2014  •  Leave a Comment

The photos appearing in the 'Beaver Dance" gallery were taken late April 2013.

It was almost dusk when these two beavers came together in the creek, put their front arms on each other's shoulders and proceeded to slowly twirl, with extreme gentleness, in the water. When the dance was complete, the two groomed each other.

The only research I could uncover, that alludes to this behaviour, suggests that sometimes when two beavers meet and they have been away from each other for some time, they greet each other in this joyous manner. (April/May is not a beaver's breeding season.)

Two regrets - I didn't have my faster and longer lens at the time and I have not seen the "beaver dance" since.
